Mob Kills Three Suspected Attackers in Plateau After Traditional Ruler’s Killing
An angry mob in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State has killed three suspected attackers accused of involvement in the murder of a traditional ruler, in a tragic escalation of violence that has further heightened tension in the area.
The suspects were reportedly linked to the killing of Ponzhi Kwallak, the traditional ruler of Kwallak community, who was shot dead in his residence on April 23. His death had already sparked outrage and fear among residents of the community, prompting calls for swift investigation and justice.
According to local accounts, the situation took a dramatic turn when the suspects were later apprehended while allegedly attempting to sell a motorcycle believed to have been stolen from the slain monarch during the attack. Their arrest initially raised hopes that they would be handed over to security agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
However, those hopes were short-lived. Eyewitnesses said that while efforts were underway to transfer the suspects to security operatives, a mob intercepted them near the Langtang North Local Government Secretariat. The crowd reportedly overpowered the situation and lynched the three suspects before authorities could intervene.
Security sources have not yet issued a full official statement on the incident, but the development underscores growing concerns over mob justice and community retaliation in parts of Plateau State, where insecurity and violent crime have remained persistent challenges.
The killing of the traditional ruler and the subsequent mob action have left residents unsettled, with community leaders and stakeholders expected to call for calm and restraint while investigations continue.
Authorities are also expected to launch a probe into both the assassination of Ponzhi Kwallak and the circumstances surrounding the mob killing of the suspects, as security agencies reiterate warnings against taking the law into one’s own hands.
