JAMB Apologises Over 2026 UTME Results Delay, Assures Candidates of Release

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially apologised to candidates following a delay in the release of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

The delay, which affected candidates who sat for the exam on Friday, April 17, 2026, sparked widespread concern and frustration after the board failed to meet its earlier promise to release the results on Saturday.

Why JAMB Delayed the UTME Results

In a statement issued on Sunday, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that the delay occurred due to the temporary absence of the board’s chief executive, who was engaged in an official assignment.

According to the board, the release process required the presence and authorization of the chief executive, which caused a slight setback in publishing the results as scheduled.

JAMB’s Official Apology to Candidates

JAMB expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, especially to candidates who stayed up late expecting their results.

The board assured candidates that:

The issue had been resolved

The chief executive had returned

Results would be released before nightfall on Sunday

The examination body also thanked candidates for their patience and understanding during the delay.

Earlier UTME Results Already Released

Before the delay, JAMB had successfully released the first batch of results for candidates who wrote the exam on Thursday, April 16, 2026, with over 600,000 results made available.

This made the delay specific to the second batch of candidates.

Minimal Issues Recorded During UTME

Despite the delay, JAMB maintained that the 2026 UTME exercise has been largely successful.

The board reported:

Over 1.7 million candidates participated

Only a few centres experienced minor issues such as power supply and technical glitches
